They Suck Eachother’s Dicks, And Fuck With Black Socks On

Watching portions of the Elena Kagan confirmation hearings makes it even clearer that our government runs entirely on a chummy, frat/sorority-style cartel of various moneyed interests and the politicians, lawyers, judges and military personnel that support them. These people trade jokes in a supposed confirmation hearing, and then hit the bars for a cold one while blood continues to be shed overseas. The hearings were so ridiculous it becomes nearly mind-boggling;
Notice how Lindsey Graham basically sucks her dick and gives her plenty of room to wiggle around his soft questions. Is this supposed to be a process to confirm those who will determine the validity of the laws in our country or is it just a televised conversation between two people who seem eager to talk about everything but the things that would actually be relevant to Kagan’s candidacy. He feeds her the answers and seeks to promote the idea that enemy combatants should be detained without due process. Kagan follows his lead, and Graham ends the questioning by continuing his own diatribe on al Qaeda as well as basically declaring his intent to confirm Kagan; “I look forward to working with you.”
Do American citizens truly believe that any of the people we elect still serve us? One of the most basic duties of Congress is to scrutinize Supreme Court nominees, especially since it is a lifetime appointment. I saw nothing in the hearings that could be labeled scrutiny, especially since Kagan just dodged most of the questions that would provide any sort of insight into what kind of Justice she would be.
I will continue to make the point that there is a massive disparity between the people who run the country and the citizens that they serve. This has been the case since the birth of our nation, but in the modern era, especially with the amount of power available to these people, this is problematic. We cannot trust the power to vaporize the globe or dictate our lives to people who are clearly cavalier about the laws and processes that are intended to protect our rights and maintain transparency in government.
